The Taxpayer Election Pledge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 13, 2020

Providence, RI -- The Gaspee Business Network (GBN) today published its Taxpayer Election Pledge, where employers and the public can vow to vote against candidates who support tax and debt increases.

As part of the RaiseSailsNotTaxes.com campaign, launched earlier this week by the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity, GBN is encouraging business owners and voters to support candidates who oppose new taxes to maintain status quo spending levels ... even after massive revenues shortfalls due to forced government shutdowns.

Voters opposed to tax hikes can take the Taxpayer Election Pledge, here.

“It’s time to take action and make the clear choice this election. Some candidates are looking out for you, while others are obviously seeking to fleece you,” said Mike Collins, spokesman for GBN, a pro-business initiative of The Gaspee Project. “Raising taxes on job-producers and families who are struggling to recover from a battered economy … is just cruel.”

Among the many taxes put forth by public employee unions, far-left advocacy groups, and progressive lawmakers include:

  • The re-imposition of sales taxes on wine and liquor
  • A TCI Gas Tax that would add a further 17-24 cents per gallon and a halt to the car-tax phase-out
  • A new tax on high-income earners, which will reduce business investment and drive more people out of our state
  • Increased building and permit fees
  • New taxes on deliveries, hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting
Bonds = Debt = Tax. To preserve corrupt status quo spending levels, political leaders are also suggesting massive new debt bonds, up to one BILLION dollars, that will force higher taxes on current and future generations.

Last month, The Gaspee Project produced the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and is tracking General Assembly and federal candidates who did or did not promise not to raise taxes. Voters can find out who on Gaspee’s website, here.
